Growing up I knew I wanted to be working in Theatre. Specifically, I thought I wanted to be an actress. My father was an all around lover of the Arts - musician, actor, singer, and dancer. My mother was into fashion. She was a buyer at AM&A's before I was born and eventually opened her own consignment shop. Marry these two humans together and you get a kid who loves clothing and performing. Little did I know that eventually I would fall into Costume Design - on accident - and love it more than being on stage.
What I love most about this work is watching your design come to life on stage. Seeing the actors wear your work and become the character is extremely rewarding. It's about that moment an actor puts on your costume and says "Oh my gosh, I LOVE this!" or when a director says "It's like you were inside my head." All of the literal blood, sweat, and tears put into that design becomes worth it! And THAT RIGHT THERE is the moment you realize you are officially doing what you love!
